How often do we take a little spark and turn it into a fire?
“We Blow It Up” is a country comedy music video with a serious message hiding under the humor.
This song features Preacher Dale and four of the characters he portrays.
A second-hand comment becomes a full-blown accusation.
And sometimes we get angry over things we mostly made up.
That is not just a gossip problem, it can become a mental health problem too.
When we let assumptions run wild, we can feed anxiety, offense, bitterness, suspicion, and division.
Sometimes the thing stealing our peace is not what actually happened, it is the story we built around it.
The Bible speaks clearly about this:
James 3:5-6 NKJV says the tongue is small, but it can set a great fire.
Proverbs 18:13 NKJV says, “He who answers a matter before he hears it, It is folly and shame to him.” Proverbs 18:17 NKJV reminds us that the first side of a story can sound right until the other side is heard. Proverbs 26:20 NKJV says, “Where there is no wood, the fire goes out; And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases.”
Philippians 4:8 NKJV tells us to think on things that are true.
Before we repeat it, react to it, post about it, or get angry over it… Maybe we need to ask: Do I know the whole story? Is this mine to tell? Am I helping heal it — or am I helping blow it up?
